How slow is too slow to go under the speed limit?
I’ve noticed many drivers on Summerlin Parkway doing 45mph blocking traffic.
Is there a minimum speed? Can drivers be ticketed for going too slow?
L.J.
When public authority see consistently slow speeds – they do sometimes establish a minimum speed limit.
Other states have this. But….not Nevada.
We typically have speeding (over slow driving) as more of an issue.
Now if someone is going as slow as L.J. described, they could be cited for impeding traffic. The laws vary depending on how many marked travel lanes there are on a specific roadway.
The crux of the law: a person shall not drive at such a slow speed as to impede the normal and reasonable movement of traffic.
There is an exception to the law – and that’s when reducing your speed is necessary for safety. Some examples would be pouring rain, an accident on the shoulder, or a damaged roadway.
The speed limit on Summerlin Parkway is 65mph, and you want to keep up with that average flow of traffic.
Slower drivers (the handful that we may have) get over to the right lane of course.
