I understand tinted windows reduce car heat, but what about pedestrians and cyclists not being able to see if the driver behind a tinted window sees them! Is tinting ever enforced?
Pat
Tickets for window tinting can be issued for over a hundred dollars.
The tint rule for passenger and driver’s side windows is: The tint must let 35% of the light through.
The error level is +/- 7%… so ultimately, it must let in at least 28% of available light through your car windows.
The companies that tint your windows, should know these guidelines.
By the way, the rear window can be as dark as you’d like.
I’m told that few officers actually bust out the tint meter to write tickets. Kind of a bigger fish to fry issue – with all the speeders and reckless drivers garnering attention.
With the high heat of summer already saying hello – police do take into account that drivers tint to help with vehicle heat. It keeps the car cooler.
Still, Metro does issue tint meters to police substations.
How many will be used to issue tickets….likely not a real high number.
My advice to pedestrians and cyclists: assume all drivers – tinted windows or not – don’t see you.
Better to be defensive…Better safe, than sorry.
