What’s driving me crazy is my drive on I-15 between St. Rose and Russell is taking twice as long some days.
What are they doing, and when will this work just go away?
Dennis
This is work to build out the future Cactus Interchange.
The groundbreaking was less than 3 months ago, but the frustrated e-mails have flowed in from viewers, like Dennis, who commute in the south Valley.
Quick refresher: this 62 million dollar project will provide a new interchange at Cactus to get onto I-15, and all that dirt there will become three travel lanes linking Cactus, from Dean Martin to the Las Vegas Strip.
There will also be traffic signals along Cactus at Dean Martin, and at Las Vegas Blvd.
So here’s what to prepare for: I-15 between Silverado Ranch and St. Rose Parkway is the slowdown stretch.
The two reasons for delays…..when work is in high gear, only one lane is open.
Also, lane shifting occurs – where northbund traffic is moved across to the other side of the freeway, and then back. This snake movement can cause traffic to snarl.
This shift is required to complete the construction of drainage structures across I-15.
Lane reductions and traffic pattern changes will be done when this opens – in Fall, 2014.
It’ll ease congestion on St. Rose, Silverado Ranch and Blue Diamond when it’s done, but for now – it’s a driving you crazy cone zone.
Kick in the surface street alternates, or allow yourself extra travel time.
