No Right On Red

Going west on Charleston….why is the intersection at Gass Avenue a “No Right Turn On Red?” I often get stuck here….just sitting and waiting.
Mark

To get our perspective: Gass Avenue at Charleston- is just west of Maryland Parkway.
I heard from the Assistant Traffic Engineer with the City of Las Vegas who reports that it is the layout of the intersection at this location that is the reason you see the sign indicating – “No Right Turns On Red” allowed.
The layout is unusual, as Gass heads up from Charleston at a northwestern angle.
The restriction is also due to line of sight concerns for those trying to turn right here, and needing to glance back down Gass.
The City told me the no right on red has been in place for many years here because of crash history; but based on Mark’s request, they will do a brand new study of conditions as they exist today and review the crash history at this location to determine if the restriction is still warranted.
I will report back on their results.
Brian
